The Lasik Procedure - Step by Step

LASIK (Laser-assisted in Situ Keratomileusis) is the most common procedure used for Vision Correction using a Laser. The Lasik procedure consists of three steps: You can also click on the following link to watch an Animation of the Lasik Procedure.

Lasik - First Step

1. During the first step, a precise instrument called a micro-keratome is used to create a microscopic hinged flap on the outer layer of your eye, the cornea. This exposes the bed of the cornea to the laser.

Lasik - Step 2
2. D
uring the second step Doctor Watkins will make the actual correction to the cornea. The excimer laser used, precisely reshapes the cornea tissue while tracking the patient's eye position for precise placement of the laser.

Lasik - Step 3

3. During the third step of the LASIK procedure, the doctor lays the corneal flap back into place and your eye begins an immediate healing process.

The LASIK procedure typically takes less than ten minutes and for most, the entire procedure is found to be painless.  Results can often be seen immediately and the overwhelming majority of LASIK patients can see well enough to function without glasses or contacts lenses for most of their activities the day following the procedure
